Ruth Cottam Milne
1917 ~ 1999

Ruth Cottam Milne, 81, passed away on October 4, 1999 to join her eternal companion, Willard MacFarlane Milne.

She was born October 28, 1917 to James Franklin and Caroline Bunker Cottam of Veyo, Utah as the fifth of seven children. Ruth spent her happy childhood years in Veyo and came to St. George at the age of 14 for high school, where she met and later married her high school sweetheart Willard Milne on November 8, 1935 in the St. George LDS Temple.She lived her entire adult life in St. George, Utah. Ruth was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served as both Relief Society President and Primary President. She was also a member of a Bridge club and the Alice Louise Reynolds Book Club for over 60 years.

Her greatest love was to her husband and five children, to whom she was a wonderful wife and mother. She was devoted to her eternal companion Willard throughout their 62 years together and supported him throughout his career as co-owner of Milne Truck Lines and during his various church callings. She was especially diligent in caring for him during his failing health in later years. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening, baking, bridge club, and her grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by one son and four daughters: Garth (Kay) Milne of South Barrington, IL; Nancy (Mike) Easton of Sandy, UT; Marsha (Bruce) Smith of Gilbert, AZ; Sue (Ken) Schmutz of Las Vegas, NV and Judy (Craig) Loe of St. George, UT; two brothers: Evan Cottam of New River, AZ; Melbourne Cottam of Veyo, UT; two sisters: Phyllis Peers of Spanish Fork, UT; Carol Moseley of Salt Lake City, UT; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 8, 1999 at 11 a.m. at the St. George LDS East Stake Center, 449 South 300 East, St. George, Utah. Visitations will be Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary, 300 West St. George Blvd, and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the chapel. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery, under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, 673-4221.
